Privacy Policy

TryFormatter does not use one processing model for every tool. Each tool falls into one of the groups described in this section and the next two, and the tool page says which one applies.

Browser-local tools. Most formatters, converters, calculators, image tools, PDF tools, exam photo tools, and security tools run in your browser. The text or file you work with is processed on your device and is not sent to TryFormatter for that operation.

Some local tools download code or model files before they start. Image to Text and the OCR step in AI PDF Summarizer download language data from the jsDelivr CDN. AI Background Remover downloads its model from IMG.LY's CDN. Several PDF tools load PDF.js from cdnjs. These requests fetch software, not your file, and the processing still happens in your browser.

A browser usually cannot read another website directly, so tools that inspect a live page use a TryFormatter server route. The URL you enter is sent to that route, which fetches the public page and returns the result to your browser. These tools work this way:

• SEO Audit Tool (URL mode)
• SEO Report Generator
• Broken Link Checker
• Redirect Checker
• Keyword Density Checker (URL mode)
• XML Sitemap Generator (crawl mode)

These requests go only to TryFormatter's server, not to a third-party proxy. The route only fetches public addresses. It rejects localhost and private network ranges, limits response size, and does not store the pages it fetches. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, and those can include the URL you asked us to check.

The YouTube Thumbnail Downloader loads thumbnail images from YouTube's image CDN directly in your browser, the same way any page that shows a YouTube thumbnail does.

Avoid entering private URLs, staging links with access tokens, or addresses that contain passwords into these tools.

AI Data Mapper has two modes, and the tool shows which one is active.

Local mode is the default. With the API key field empty, the tool turns your rows into flat JSON in the browser. It does not contact OpenAI and ignores the mapping instructions.

OpenAI mode starts when you enter your own OpenAI API key. When you run a mapping in this mode, your browser sends the full source text and your mapping instructions directly to OpenAI at api.openai.com, using your key. The request does not pass through TryFormatter. A notice above the editor says this before you run it. OpenAI's terms and privacy policy apply to what you send.

Your API key stays in the page's memory while the tab is open. TryFormatter does not write it to cookies, localStorage, or our servers, so reloading or closing the page clears it.

TryFormatter has no user accounts, so we do not hold names, passwords, or profiles.

Our analytics services record page visits, browser and device type, approximate location, and tool events such as "tool started" or "file downloaded". Events can include details like file type or size, but not the text or file content you work with. Two exceptions: the search boxes on some category pages record the search text, and the HTML Viewer download event records the file name.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.

The live site uses two analytics services:

• Google Analytics 4 measures traffic and feature use and sets first-party cookies. Google's policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and the opt-out browser add-on is at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
• Ahrefs Web Analytics measures page views and traffic sources. Ahrefs' policy is at ahrefs.com/legal/privacy-policy.

We use this data to see which tools people use and which pages break. We do not sell it.

TryFormatter does not currently display advertising. No advertising scripts run on the site, and no advertising data is collected.

If advertising is introduced in the future, including services such as Google AdSense, we will update this policy before or when it starts. The update will name the advertising providers, explain what data they process, and describe any consent controls and choices available to you.

Some features save data in your browser using localStorage or IndexedDB. This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. It includes:

• Your theme, favorite tools, and cookie banner choice
• Settings and checklists in some calculators and SEO tools
• AI Transformer's snippet history, kept in IndexedDB
• Text that Smart Detective or Edge Hub passes to the tool it suggests

Clearing site data for tryformatter.com in your browser settings removes all of it.

TryFormatter relies on these outside services:

• Vercel hosts the site and runs the server routes (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
• Google Analytics 4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics, described above
• Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces (policies.google.com/privacy)
• jsDelivr, cdnjs, and IMG.LY's CDN deliver code and model files for some browser-local tools
• OpenAI, only when you run AI Data Mapper in OpenAI mode with your own key

TryFormatter does not store what you process in browser-local tools. Server-assisted tools send their results back to your browser without saving them. Hosting logs and analytics data are kept under Vercel's, Google's, and Ahrefs' retention settings.

The site is served over HTTPS. For browser-local tools, the safety of your data also depends on your device and browser. No website can promise perfect security, so use test values instead of live production secrets whenever you can.

• Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
• Clear localStorage and IndexedDB data by clearing site data for tryformatter.com.
• Opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on.
• Leave the AI Data Mapper key field empty to keep that tool in local mode.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access or delete personal data about you. Since we hold no accounts, most requests will concern analytics data held by Google or Ahrefs. Email us and we will help where we can.

When a change to our tools or services affects how your data is handled, we update this page and its "Last updated" date.
